FOOD PANTRY

WHAT IS A FOOD PANTRY?

A clearinghouse of food and food products available for distribution to those in need.

PURPOSE

  • To provide our church and surrounding community with healthy produce, shelf stable food and fresh/frozen meats.
  • To provide emergency food services to those in need.
  • To provide other houses of faith with products to stock the pantry in their community.

MISSION

To provide all who ask and have need with food to sustain them. It is our desire that no one goes hungry.

PLANS/GOALS

Our current plan is to create an enclosed shoppable food market in the Family Life Center. Citizens in need of assistance will shop in the pantry just as they would in a grocery store.

Recruitment Statement

Many Hands Make Light Work! The pantry staff is growing, but we still need you. We have several active projects:

  • First Thursday – Monthly Food Distribution: a drive-thru food distribution provided by the church Through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
  • Sunday Distributions – immediately following worship in the Family Life Center or the Narthex depending on the volume. This is provided by the Mount Pleasant Development Corporations’ Retail Recovery Program.
  • Weekday Distribution – Emergent needs from the church or community distributed through Ministry Support in the Administrative Office.
  • DAILY FOOD PANTRY – We are looking for a volunteer staff to allow us to open the food pantry during the week for guests to shop for their needs.
